X12 motherboards dedicated for Intel Xeon E-2300 (Rocket Lake-E)

It took a long time, but a few days ago, "X12" motherboards from Supermicro finally appeared on the market. To celebrate the release of the Intel Xeon E-2300 (Socket LGA-1200 (Socket H5) series, Intel has released four standard 1U rack servers, a tower server, two MicroCloud dense servers and two MicroBlade servers. This tutorial has been written to acquaint you with the servers listed below and the title motherboards to show the differences between them.

Servers 1U

Supermicro has four new servers based on the Intel Xeon E-2300 available, and all 1U servers have 4 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting UDIMM ECC for up to 128GB of RAM at 3200MHz.

SYS-510T-WTR

  • Chipset Intel C256

  • Redundant (1+1) 400W Platinum power supply
  • 2 1GbE LAN ports (Intel i210)
  • 1 dedicated HBA slot
    Interfejs IPMI

SYS-110T-M

  • Chipset Intel C256

  • 1 dedicated HBA slot
    Interfejs IPMI (ASPEED AST2600)

SYS-510T-ML

  • Chipset Intel C252
  • Accommodates 1 PCI-E 4.0 x8 slot (x16 FHHL)

Tower Servers

Where we will not use rack servers due to the lack of a rack cabinet, we can reach for tower servers. The server listed below is built around a Supermicro CSE-731I-404B chassis.

SYS-530T-I

  • Chipset Intel C252
  • 4 DIMM slots, which gives you the ability to plug in up to 128GB of RAMAllows PCI-E 3.0 x2 (4x), PCI-E 4.0 x8, PCI-E 4.0 x8 (x16) and PCI-E 4.0 x4 (x8) connectionsDrives that fit inside are 4x 3.5", 1x NVMe M.2 and 2x 5.25"
  • The case type is Mini-Tower
  • 400W 80PLUS Gold power supply
  • 2 1GbE LAN ports (Intel i210)
    Interfejs IPMI (ASPEED AST2600)

MicroCloud Servers

In a 3U chassis, we have a choice of 12-node (H12TRF) or 8-node (H8TNR) versions. Common features of the MicroCloud servers listed below are:Chipset Intel C256,

  • 4 DIMM slots (per node) allowing up to 128GB of RAM (Very Low Profile),
  • 2 1GbE LAN ports for one node (Intel i350),
  • Interfejs IPMI (ASPEED AST2600)
  • The enclosure type is 3U,

SYS-530MT-H12TRF

  • PCI-E 4.0 x8 MLP
  • 2 drive slots (4x 2.5" or 2x 3.5" per node)
    1 M.2 NVMe lub 1 M.2 SATA3
  • Redundant (1+1) Titanium 2200W power supply

SYS-530MT-H8TNR

  • Enables PCI-E 4.0 x8 (16x) low profile connection
  • 2 drive slots (hot-swap; 2x 3.5" hot-swap per node)
    2 M.2 NVMe albo 2 M.2 SATA3
  • Redundant (1+1) Titanium 2000W power supply

Although these two servers are very similar in specifications they differ significantly. One of the aforementioned servers (SYS-530MT-H12TRF) features 12 nodes, which are 29.5" (749.3 mm) deep, but do not support hot-swap drives. The second server (SYS-530MT-H8TNR) supporting 8 nodes features a 23" (585mm) depth which will please owners of shallow (600mm) cabinets. In this case, for a smaller number of nodes and depth, you get hot-swap capability.
This is designed so that the nodes can be pulled out and serviced individually along with the nodes for data storage.
Comparing it to the SYS-530MT-H12TRF, such a SYS-530MT-H8TNR, despite having only 8 nodes, features instead that it has two 3.5" hot-swap bays (16 total).

MicroBlade servers

The common features of the MicroBlade servers listed below are:

  • Chipset Intel C256,
  • 4 DIMM slots (per node) allowing up to 128GB of RAM,
  • No PCI-E port,
    Interfejs IPMI (ASPEED AST2500).

MBI-310T-4C2

  • 1 NVMe/SATA SSD slot (2280/22110;M-Key) and 2x 2.5" SAS3 HDDs
  • 2 1GbE LAN ports for one node (Intel i350)
  • Avago 3008 SAS3 (12Gbps) controller

MBI-310T-4T2N

  • 2x U.2 NVMe SSD i 1x NVMe/SATA SSD (2280/22110; M-Key
  • 2 1GbE LAN ports for one node (Intel i350)
